Bracketry: As I stated previously, all Tarox kits come with mounting brackets to fit your particular car. I also stated that in the company's original estimation, the X1/9-Scorpion kit could work on a Spider. Well, when we did an initial test fit on the car itself, we pretty much confirmed what we already knew...
The supplied backet was incorrect! As you can see from these images above and below, the space we have to work with on Spiders is limited. The brackets would need to mount to the hub carrier's backing plate where the stock caliper mounts, clear the steering arm, extend sufficiently so that the new caliper mounts correctly over the rotor and ensure its proper mounting offset.
Time to DIY. So with the rotor mounted nicely to the hub a number of measurements were taken along with some pictures to be sent back to Italy. However, the kit required completion as soon as possible since two of them had already been pre-sold. So waiting for the factory to machine new ones was not an option. To do the job, we contacted Dwain Kremyr of Kremyr Racing who happens to be one of the best race car fabricators on the planet. His work doesn't come cheap but it is always perfect the first time and the craftsmanship is second to none. So I removed the entire hub carrier assembly from the car and brought it down to his shop along with the rest of the brake kit and wheel and tire. For anyone else contemplating their own brake system, doing this really saves time and hassle. Nothing worse than running back and forth to your machinist measuring, fitting, remeasuring - bring it all to him. Five days later he had the bracketry done:
Machined from a block of 6061 T-6 aluminum, the new brackets are fairly simple looking and light but very strong. They facilitate the left and right mount calipers and are an exact fit. Notice the scalloped edge. That was done to provide clearance for the steering arm. I've posted an image of one of the brackets from my original kit for comparison. This was used to mount the Wilwood or Outlaw calipers. The mounting centers on this are axial to both the backing plate and to the caliper itself. Most Tarox brackets mount axially to the hub carrier but the calipers mount radially to their brackets.
